My dearest darlings,
I can’t deny the fact that Im a very sentimental person. Whenever I go out with my friends, they are quick to hand me the receipt because they know I need it for journaling. I have boxes full of things I hoarded because they are like the tangible representations of my favorite moments. In a way, they make me feel like I can hold on to the memories, that they arent as fleeting.
Valentine’s day is around the corner and dude if I aint the biggest fan of love!!!!! As much as I appreciate the idea of saving up and treating your loved ones to the movies and nice restaurants (wink wink), Im more of a sucker for gifts from the heart. The personal ones. I received several things for Christmas but there were two that made me swoon and cry. Both were very thoughful and so... me.

This post was meant to be cost-free gift ideas but in the process, I realised that I was just listing down things I would love to receive from/give the people I care about. Here they are:
‣ handwritten letters
What a suprise!!!!!! I want hand written letters!!!!! The letters I received throughout the years are kept in a box together with the other mementos. I find myself rereading them over and over again even though most of the time I end up bawling on the floor wishing I could relive some moments.
Letters, man. I swear they have some kind of magic in them. maybe put some pressed flowers too or a poem you wrote for them.
‣ a trip to the museum
Ive been going to different museums lately. I go home with a full heart but not an empty pocket. Hey, the entrance fee to Vargas Museum is Php 30.00!!! Met costs Php 100.00 and have you heard? National Museum is free!! And go watch the sunset afterwards. Seize the day, friends!

I always feel bad wrecking old books from the used shop, but the idea that Im turning them into another form of art makes me feel warm. Maybe, just maybe, theyre thanking me for picking them up and bringing them to life once more.
‣ your favorite book
The worn out pages wont be a problem. If anything, it’ll make it sweeter. The photo above is from December when I was creating gifts for my friends. I gave Francine one of my favorite books with a letter written on a rustic craft paper and blackout poetry in a bottle for others. (See next photo)

‣ plants
and I quote, “plant mom is the new cat mom!” Plants make you feel loved but without the responsibility that comes with having fur babies.
‣ a handmade gift check
along with the blackout poetry, I handmade thrift store gift certificates for my friends. Since we are in different blocks now, we don't get to hangout as much as we would like to. There's always a conflict in our class schedules and org duties. I wanted to give myself a pat on my back when this idea popped. We all talked about going thrift shopping but never had the chance to so it was win win! It had no expiry date or promo period haha! The only rule was they must claim it with me!! I wanna go shopping tooo

‣ candles
They never fail to make any setting relaxing, romantic and cozy. I recently hung out with my friend Richard and he gave me two candles with packaging that brought me to tears. Not to mention they smell so good! Im always excited to go home because of them. (jk, im always excited to go home.)
‣ sunset
who doesnt like watching the sun do wonders, seriously? I dont wanna talk about sunsets because this post is too mushy already but I really am obsessed with the way it makes me feel. I may or may not have written hundreds of poems inspired by it. I got to enjoy it recently with some friends while having takeout food for dinner. The ocean reflected it and there was a violinist performing and I swear, the world begs to be romanticized sometimes.

‣ a list of your favorite things
Or things that remind you of that person. Or places you think they would enjoy. or products you think they should try. or movies/tv series you would gladly watch with them if you had all the time in the world. Just list things down. Im all for lists!
‣ a literary piece
‣ a spotify playlist
the tumblr girl in me toned down this time. You don’t have to put it in a mixtape! Or burn a cd! My laptop doesnt have cd rom anyways.
if your heart is too heavy to let the aforementioned favorite book go, or if you're not really into writing letters or poetry, you may also give your person a copy of your favorite poem or one that reminds you of them! maybe a short story too. or a script to a play.
some of my favorite old poems here
I want all of it!!!! BE ALLLL OVEEERRR MEEEE pls i like clingy
And hey, it doesnt have to end with only your favorite people. You can give the rest of the world a gift, too. Here's a little tip for you:
p.s. Also, not to be basic, but flowers are timeless.
p.p.s. sunflowers are my favourite
