Genuine self love

It's so easy to mistake self care and treating yourself. Ive stumbled upon things that I thought would take the exhaustion away. And maybe it did, but it only lasted for a few moments before leaving my soul even wearier. I sought rest in all the wrong places. And really, how many chocolate bars does it take to take my stress away? Fortunately, it didnt take so much before I realised my naivety.  Im lucky I have my mom. She just laughed at me when I said "I swear Im fixing my life." then went out of her way to help me. Really, she makes it seem so easy to fix the mess I keep on making out of myself.

I was on the bus to school one day, running on a few grace hours of sleep. I took my journal out and decided it's time to change things. I made a list of ways I can take better care of myself physically, improve my relationships and heal my tired tired spirit. My relationship with myself sets the foundation of how I interact with the rest of the world and after all, you can't pour from an empty cup.

Here are my little rules.

  • My body is the vessel of my soul. It must be field with clean food and be given enough rest. No fastfood, colored drink, less dairy, more vegetables. I should make time for yoga for it will mean making time to take better care of my physical body. Create energy on days I dont feel like it. It is my way of honoring myself. Get at least six hours of sleep. Do not be lazy to moisturise in the morning & before I go to bed. Quit that drink gradually and replace it with green tea. The only downside to green tea is the after taste and even then, you’ll get used to it eventually. Dont get used to having dessert after every meal. Water. Water. Water. Water.
  • Choose the hard right over the easy wrong. Meditate more often. Read. ALWAYS BE HONEST. No matter how hard it may be, regardless of how dishonest others are. Go home as early as possible. Declutter your mind by writing and letting it all out. Being organised makes you calm, feel healthy and accomplished. Take more school notes. Borrowing makes you feel like a burden to others. Do more of what you love in order to keep your sanity intact and give you purpose.
  • I am the company I keep. Keep your circle small but strong. Stop spending time trying hard for empty souls and small talk. Clean your following list. Dont scroll through social media mindlessly. Practice productive procrastination. STOP SWEARING. Make time for your dogs. Youre all they have. Stay in the present.
